ABOUT THE TEACHER
PROFESSIONAL BIO
Elizabeth (Betsy) Stelzer is a pianist, vocalist and choral director from Arlington, Texas. She received a BM in Performance from the University of North Texas, where she sang with top jazz ensembles, while performing with rock bands as a vocalist and keyboardist. Ms. Stelzer is a dedicated teacher as well, with an MM in Music Education from the University of Texas at Arlington. During her time at UTA, she founded a vocal jazz ensemble, sang and travelled with the UTA Jazz Band, and was employed as graduate teaching assistant in the Music Theory program. Ms. Stelzer is most proud of her work in tutoring vocalists in music theory, helping them to reach comprehensive musicianship and complete their degree programs. Providing singers with the understanding of theory, along with performance, has been a fundamental goal ever since.
Ms. Stelzer has directed choirs in schools, churches and communities for over a decade. This experience coaching singers and working with ensembles has been critical in helping her to develop as a teacher. She brings the knowledge of core principles of singing that benefit every singer, whether their goal is to be a soloist, a choral singer, or a hobbyist.
Ms. Stelzer continues to direct choirs and coach singers professionally, while performing as a jazz pianist and singer in her free time. She believes every person is born with an instrument, and using this instrument is of great benefit to the individual and to society. She believes it is never too late to begin learning; music is available to anyone willing to be dedicated to it.
