ABOUT THE TEACHER
PROFESSIONAL BIO
Alex Jewell is a musician and teacher who has performed all over the world. He has and performed and taught in a wide array of styles including jazz, blues, rock, pop, and R&B. While in university, Alex was the bassist for the OSU Jazz Lab Ensemble and the guitarist for the OSU Jazz Ensemble, as well as many other groups inside and outside of school. One of these bands was a Beatles cover band, which for Alex was a childhood dream of his. Alex also played upright bass with the Rick Brunetto Big Band for two years.
After college, Alex continued to perform and teach lessons privately until he was hired as the Studio Instructor Coordinator for Guitar Center Studios. As lead instructor, he had the privilege to teach guitar and bass students of all ages and all levels of playing. More recently, Alex has spent the last 6 years performing on Holland America Line cruise ships all over the world. As part of the show band, Alex has had the opportunity to perform with hundreds of guest entertainers throughout his ship career. After Holland America partnered with the B.B. King Blues Club, based out of Memphis, Alex became the bass player for the eight-piece group that performed onboard.
As a teacher, Alex believes that learning how to play a musical instrument should be a fun and rewarding experience. He strives to cater his lessons and curriculum to meet each individual’s unique goals. Whether someone is a total beginner or are looking to further expand their existing musical skills, Alex is looking forward to being a part of that journey.
